Pictures From Bike Friendly Portland

A group riding up Williams Street,
one of the main bike thoroughfares.
In good weather bikes outnumber cars 2:1
on this stretch
Since 2006, Portland has been investing 1% of its DOT budget towards making the city more bicycle friendly. Six years later and Portland has an excellent network of trails and bike lanes as well as innovation in traffic signals and lane design.
These steps towards bicycle friendliness have made Portland a very attractive city, especially to the young, educated, and insufferably smug.
You might not be able to get a job, but you can get from your sustainable housing co-op to the Whole Foods to some hippie snuggle party where you can huff nitrous whippits with a "speculative activist/artist" all without using any gas, as if you could afford it anyway.

Still, the bike lanes are great. Joking aside, all cities in America would do well to copy Portland's lead, transportation-wise at least.

This intersection has a traffic light for bikes,
triggered by weight I think.

Reminder signs are everywhere and special turn lanes
have been installed on busier streets

Instructions

Green lanes are for bikes only.

Bike themed businesses thrive along major bike routes.
